Favorite Jokester/Sarcastic Characters | Top 5 Wednesday

I could only think of 4 characters so I decided to go with what I have.

4. Chubs - The Darkest Minds.

Chubs is an amazing character and has some really credit one-liners. He's incredibly sarcastic and always makes me laugh!

3. Leo Valdez - Heroes of Olympus

Oh Leo. He's grown so much as a character over the series. Even though he was one of the less "important" characters he's always been of my favorites. He always diffuses tension with his humor and can always offer a sarcastic but honest remark.


2. Kenji Kishimoto - Shatter Me

He was my favorite character in Ignite Me. He's so funny and I love his relationship with Juliette. He always lightens up the mood and is just perf <3

1. Will Herondale - The Infernal Devices

Will Herondale is one of my all time favorite characters. He's so snarky throughout the entire series and it's wonderful.

Bookish Academy Awards

Hello!

Last weekend was the Oscars so I decided to take part in the tag circulating Booktube and list my Bookish Academy Award winners for the books I read in 2014.

Best Actor - Best Male Protagonist

Liam from The Darkest Minds: The finale was released last year and holy cow did I love it. The Darkest Minds is one of my favorite series and Liam is such a comedic, sarcastic, badass, wonderful protagonist.

Best Actress - Best Female Protagonist

I'm tempted to say Ruby from The Darkest Minds but since I already listed Liam, I'm going with Karou from Daughter of Smoke & Bone. Karou is a kickass female protagonist who doesn't let anyone stand in her way and I want to be her best friend.

Best Cinematography - Best Plot Twist

I can't remember any plot twists so...

Best Costume Design - Best Book Cover

Just look at it. Need I say more?

Best Supporting Actor - Best Male Sidekick

Kenji Kishimoto <3. I love his and Juliette's relationship in this series. He's badass, sarcastic, funny, and I want more of him.

Best Supporting Actress - Best Female Sidekick

Zuzana is seriously the best friend ever. She's adorable, she has a great relationship with Karou, and she lightens up the intense story as well as furthers it.

Best Original Screenplay - Most Unique Plot/World

I have never read anything like If I Stay. If you don't already know, the book follows Mia, a girl who recently was involved in a car crash and lost her parents and her brother. Throughout the book she is in a coma and debating whether or not to wake up. I thought the story was incredibly unique and  loved it.

Best Adapted Screenplay - Best Book-to-Movie Adaptation

I reread TFiOS for the movie and it was fantastic. I've only seen the movie once but I thought it was a brilliant adaptation. It stayed very true to the book while also creating an understandable and well made movie.

Best Animated Feature - A Book That Would Work Well in Animated Format

Amulet is such a fun, creative graphic novel and I think it would be an amazing animated movie.

Best Director - A Writer You Discovered For the First Time

To All the Boys I've Loved Before was the first book written by Jenny Han I read. I've since read her Summer series and I love all her books. They're sweet, unique contemporary romances that don't include all the cliches normally found in romance. The characters are wonderful as is the writing.

Best Visual Effects - Best Action in a Book

I'm going to cheat a little and choose a manga series for this one. Attack on Titan has beautiful art with outstanding action scenes.

Best Musical Score - Best Music in a Book-to-Movie Adaptation

The score in Mockingjay was amazing. It perfectly complemented the film.

Best Short Film - Best Novella

Night of Cake & Puppets, the novella to Daughter of Smoke & Bone was adorable. It followed the first date of Zuzana and Mik and was magical.

Best Picture - Best Stand-Alone

I'm not one for paranormal books, every one I've read just wasn't a good experience, but The Coldest Girl in Coldtown was great. Vampirism is such an overdone topic but this book gives it a fresh spin. I was captivated by the plot and the characters and I wish there was more.

Best Documentary - Best Historical Fiction/Non Fiction

I had to read this for school and I really enjoyed it. The writing is wonderful and it's a very interesting perspective of the Vietnam War. This book is historical fiction but it feels a lot more like non fiction (in a good way).

Top 10 Books of 2014

Hello again!

Here are the top 10 books I read in 2014.

10. The Iron Trial - Holly Black & Cassandra Clare

The Iron Trial is the first book in the Magisterium series co-written by Holly Black and Cassandra Clare. It follows the story of Callum, a boy who, for the entirety of his life, was told that magic was bad. What happens when he's accepted into the Magisterium, a school for magic? While clearly middle grade, this book is very fun and interesting. There isn't a whole lot of plot but it does a great job setting up for the rest of the series. I love both the authors and can't wait to read more from them! Full review here.

9. Saga, Vl. 1 - Brian K. Vaughan (writer) and Fiona Staples (artist)

When two soldiers from opposite sides of a never-ending galactic war fall in love, they risk everything to bring a fragile new life into a dangerous old universe (Goodreads). I fell in love with this book at first page. It was funny and different, certainly not what I was expecting (not that that's bad). I definitely want to continue reading.

8. To All the Boy's I've Loved Before - Jenny Han

Lara Jean Song writes love letters for every boy she's ever loved. When her secret letters are mailed, her life flips upside down. This was such a cute book! It was so sweet and fluffly and fun and a great read in general. I loved the family dynamic. In YA literature the family tends to be there only when it's needed but in this story, Lara Jean's family is a big part of her life. The cultural diversity was great.  It was really predictible and Lara Jean's decisions annoyed me at times. Overall, however, this was so much fun to read and I cannot wait for the next one! 7. The Coldest Girl in Coldtown  - Holly Black

Tana lives in a world where walled cities called Coldtowns, in which quarantined vampires and humans live, exist. One morning, Tana wakes up after a party to find that all but three people in the house have been massacred by vampires: Tana, her ex-boyfriend, and a mysterious vampire boy on chains. Tana is determined to save them by going straight into the heart of a Cold town (Goodreads). I'm not one for paranormal books, every one I've read just wasn't a good experience, but this book was just amazing. Vampirism is such an overdone topic but this book gives it a fresh, new spin. 6. The Summer I Turned Pretty - Jenny Han

Belly has spent every summer at Cousins with her mom, her brother, her mom's best friend and her two sons, Jeremiah and Conrad. Belly has been in love with Conrad since she was ten, but this summer things change. This was such a fun and quick read! I was expecting this to be a stereotypical, fluffy contemporary, but it was so much more. There are deeper undertones that lead toward a bigger picture. I was constantly thinking about this book weeks after I finished it. Definitely recommend. Full review here.

5. Ignite Me - Taherah Mafi

Ignite Me is the third and final installment of the Shatter Me series. I loved this book and series so so much! It was a ton of fun to read and I really loved the characters. It was a bit too romance-heavy for me thought, hence being only number 5 on this list. Nonetheless, it's a great book. I have 24 bookmarked pages that I reread every few weeks! If Mafi ever writes more for this series I'll definitely be picking them up.

4. Clockwork Princess - Cassandra Clare

Clockwork Princess is the third and final installment of The Infernal Devices. I absolutely loved (I've used that word so many times in this post) The Infernal Devices, but the last book was definitely the best. It wrapped up the story so well and the ending was very satisfying.

3. Dreams of Gods & Monsters - Laini Taylor

Dreams of Gods & Monsters is the third and final installment of the Daughter of Smoke & Bone series. What an epic ending to another brilliant series. The series got better with every book and I look forward to rereading it soon.

2. City of Heavenly Fire - Cassandra Clare

City of Heavenly Fire is the sixth and final installment of The Mortal Instruments series. I absolutely loved the entirety of this book. It made me laugh. It made me cry. If gave me all the feels. I was sobbing for the last 50 pages and I'm so sad it's over.

1. In the Afterlight - Alexandra Bracken

In the Afterlight is the third and final installment of The Darkest Minds series. This was a stunning conclusion to one of my all-time favorite series. In the Afterlight is definitely the most dark and heavy book of the series, but it makes sense. The ending was incredibly satisfying. There were no loose ends, everything was concluded perfectly. If you haven't read The Darkest Minds series yet, what are you waiting for? (I cried five times during the reading of this book.)

Top Ten Most Owned Authors!

Hello!

So today I'm going to the Top Ten Most Owned Authors Tag that's been circling around Booktube.

10. Agatha Christie

I own After the Funeral, Dead Man's Folly, The Moving Finger, and Murder on the Orient Express. I haven't read any of Christie's books in a while nor do I plan buying anymore of her books but what I have read I've really enjoyed.

9. Tahereh Mafi

I LOOOVE the Shatter me series soso much. I also have the novellas but I've lent it out to a friend. I can't wait for Tahereh to right more books.

8. Veronica Roth

The Divergent series is one of my all time favorite series and I definitely plan on buying more books if Veronica writes anymore.

7. John Green

I own An Abundance of Katherines, Paper Towns, Looking for Alaska, and The Fault in Our Stars. I own pretty much all his books that he's written on his own and I seriously cannot wait for him to right more.

6. Ellen Hopkins

Ellen Hopkins is one of my favorite authors of all time. I have Impulse, Perfect, Crank, Glass, and Tricks. I didn't really like Crank and Glass but the others were AMAZING. I really need to buy the rest of her books.

5. Rick Riordan

I have the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series and I realllllllly want to buy the Heroes of Olympus series. I have read them but I don't own them.

4. C.S. Lewis

I haven't read the Chronicles of Narnia in a very long time but I remember I loved it.

3. J.K. Rowling

This is a pretty obvious choice. I remember I really enjoyed this series but I haven't reread it since the last book came out.

2. Cassandra Clare

At number two I have the 9 books of The Shadowhunter Chronicles are sooo good. I love love love Cassandra Clare. I'm so excited for her new books. The Iron Trial comes out it 3 days! I'll basically buy any of her books without hesitation.

1. Lemony Snicket

And coming up at number one I have all 13 of A Series of Unfortunate Events and Who Could That Be at This Hour? (not pictured). A Series of Unfortunate Events was my childhood and I just love the series so much. Who Could That Be at This Hour?, however, was just not for me. It's more suited for a younger audience.
